American Cars Sweep Car Of The Year Awards…In Canada

By | February 19, 2011

Red 2011 Chevy CruzeIt looks like Eminem’s SuperBowl commercial spinning Detroit-made vehicles as the new sexy imports and America as the kick-ass leader in making cars again worked, at least according to our chilly neighbors in the north. Despite a recent “sprawling” growth spurt in Canadian-made cars, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada announced that their picks for the Canadian car of the year were the super-American 2011 Chevrolet Cruze and the redesigned Ford Edge.┬áChalk up two wins for us yanks!

Actually, we do have to give some respect to the AJAC’s choice for 2011. The Cruze is a fantastic practical little ride that scores good numbers in the gas mileage category, especially in a time where fuel prices are only going up and hatred for GM’s stupid Aveo has peaked. And the Ford Edge is….well, you know how we feel about Ford. In fact, we consider these choices to be much more relevant to everyday consumers over more well-known COTY awards like MotorTrend’s choice of the Chevy Volt and Top Gear’s 2009 choice of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP-550-2 Balboni (admittedly much more fun to drive though). What do you think of Canada’s car of the year choices? Oh ya-eh.
