Audi Quattro Concept Car

By | November 26, 2010

The Audi Quattro concept car harks back to a simpler time for the automaker. Based on a six-inch shorter Audi RS5’s architecture, the Quattro concept’s weight has been reduced to less than 2900 pounds by the use of aluminum and carbon fiber.

The V8 from the RS5 has been tossed for a heritage-inspired in-line five cylinder-namely the 2.5L I5 turbocharged engine from the Audi TTS, which also further reduces weight. The engine has been boosted up to 402hp for an Audi estimated 0-62mph time of a mere 3.9 seconds.

Of course the Quattro concept retains Audi’s Quattro AWD system, now with a 60 percent rear wheel bias and a six-speed manual transmission.

Will Audi build the Quattro into a production car? It’s too early to tell but hopefully they do. Any guesses on price have to do with the number of cars planned for production and the amount of aluminum and carbon fiber pieces that would end up on the production car.
