Blip: Why Ford Has Done The Electric Vehicle Right

By | November 10, 2011

electric Ford FocusA quick conversation with a lead engineer for the electric Ford Focus this last weekend revealed why Ford has actually done the electric vehicle right. Apparently the chassis of an electric Focus has the exact same built and motor mount points as a regular, gas powered Focus. In other terms, they’re the exact same car underneath.

Now, instead of being stuck with huge inventories of $40,000 electric cars that won’t sell at that price point, Ford can basically “build on demand” and keep the focus on wherever the demand is at (ha, inadvertent Ford Focus joke). Undoubtedly that will be the petrol powered version, at least until the price goes down and charging station numbers go up.
