BMW M5, Your Competition Has Arrived

***Daily Derbi Karting for Charity Day, May 27th!***
As long-time BMW M5 loyals, it’s pretty hard to get us excited about a four-door power sedan…until now. Enter: Audi RS7. Now, we know what you’re thinking. RS7? Whatever happened to the A7, and even the S7? That’s like skipping dinner and going straight to dessert! You’re absolutely right, and death by 580 horsepower chocolate is on the menu.
Don’t get your AMEX Black out yet, because the RS7 will likely top the range in September. So wipe up that puddle of drool on your keyboard, and make yourself presentable for a few more months. OK, so we’ve got you hungry, now take a look at the projected specs.
The Specs
Sources say that the powerplant on the RS7 is going to be a mammoth, naturally-aspirated 5.2L V10, pushing out the aforementioned 580 horses. Not bad for a family mover, hu? The tranny will likely be Audi’s 7speed. According to the Daily Derbi Guesstimator, expect to drop $133,885 as a starting base on this charismatic sedan and arrive at 60mph from a stop at or around 4 seconds. Now that you know what you’re getting yourself into, let’s see how it stacks up against the competition.
The Competition
Here we have compiled the stats for some of the likely performance sedan competitors. If you’re spending that much money on an Audi, you should definitely also be considering the R8 V10, so we threw that into the mix even though it’s a completely different class.
Mercedes CLS63 – 6.3L V8, 507HP, and 0-60 in 4.3. Starting at $97,950
BMW M5 – 5L V10, 500 HP, 0-60 in 4.7. Starting at $85,700
Maserati Quattroporte – 4.7L V8, 400HP, 0-60 in 5.1. Starting from $120,250
Audi R8 – Same engine producing only 525HP, starting from $146,000
It’s still going to take a load of convincing for us to give up our dreams of M5 powerslides, but the RS7 could stand a chance.

Wow….for the first time ever I honestly think I would take the Audi. This car is amazing. The M5 doesn’t hold a candle to it power wise.

Mmm…. Dessert first!!! I am amazed by Audi and the technology they introduce to the market.

Bryan, I agree with you. Considering it’s only 30hp short of the S65 AMG starting at $201,000, you might even consider it a good value
