Bye bye crappy Aveo, welcome Cruze

2011 Chevy Cruze

Lets start with a fact- Chevrolet and small cars are two things that don’t go together well. Chevy’s latest attempt at making a small car resulted in the Aveo which is considered by some to be the single worst car in production today.

So when the 2011 Cruze was unveiled I was surprised to find that I didn’t immediately hate the small car. In fact, Chevy’s newest attempt at an super economical vehicle is off to a really good start in both the looks and performance departments.

The stats are practical and far from exciting. In the engine department are two choices: a typical 1.8L four-banger or a more exciting 1.4L with a turbocharger that’s been rated at 138bhp. Ya, that’s no 4 second 0-60 time but it will certainly suffice for the weekly grocery runs at Wal-Mart and freeway on-ramps everywhere. And once you’re on the freeway, the Cruze is expected to get 40mpg, which is a far sight better than the Aveo.

But the best part of the Cruze is undoubtedly the interior. In the past Chevy’s mindset has obviously been that people who buy cheap cars don’t care for comfort and luxury while driving to Wal-Mart for groceries. Now Chevrolet has hired Joe the Plumber to advise on the interior, resulting in a truly good looking cabin.

Now that all the details have been worked out, lets hope Chevy doesn’t screw with the design to much and just leave the car on Cruze control (haha, see what I did there).
