The 2002 Ferrari Enzo Interior

According to Ferrari Chairman, Luca Di Montezemolo, the Ferrari Enzo replacement will be unveiled by the end of the year.  It won’t be the flashy media infested event that often accompanies the unveiling of a halo car.  Instead, only a handful of Ferrari VIP’s and customers will be present.

It’s funny to think that the likes of Ferrari would have a Halo car.  A car that encompasses the identity of the brand, all its potential, and most advanced performance capabilities in one iteration, a car to eclipse all others.  A Halo car for Ferrari has to hit pretty hard when being compared to the highly advanced 458 Italia and the mighty F12 Berlinetta.

Halo cars from Ferrari don’t come along every day either.  The last one being the Enzo which passed on nearly ten years ago.  Before the Enzo was the F50 and before that, my personal favorite, the F40.  These cars generally blow the minds of the automotive world when they debut- to do that these days you have to be approaching the 4-digit barrier in power numbers.  The F12 will be pumping out a solid 730 horsepower. The Enzo replacement which will reportedly be called the F70, should bring around 800 or so from the same power plant.

It’s also reported the the F70 may utilize a kinetic energy recovery system, which would bump the power rating into the 900′s.  With Jaguar, Porsche, and a number of others working on Halo cars with hybrid systems, it only makes sense that Ferrari would do the same.

The late Ferrari Enzo has been dwarfed in performance and power figures by it’s younger siblings but the Halo car must be top dog.  Expect the the F70 to be relatively anorexic, F1 inspired to the limit, and astonishingly fast.  It’s hard to imagine what the F80, ten years from now will be like!

The Enzo is my all-time favorite car. Not a very original choice, I know, but who cares. It’s one of a handful of cars that I still get genuinely excited over when I see one in pictures or in life.

This F70 has some big shoes to fill and unfortunately, I really doubt the styling will be as angular, flat and crazy as the Enzo’s.

Oh, please F70! Be better looking than the Enzo! I’ve never been an Enzo fan, but numbers are like Shakira’s hips – they don’t lie. Even if it looked as ridiculous as the Enzo, as long as it performs like a monster, I’ll still love it.

From now on you’re required to post under the username “Numbers Are Like Shakira’s Hips”.

The F40 is my personal favorite of the Ferrari halo cars… if not all of them.  I’m anxiously awaiting some spy shots of the F70.
