Ferrari Releases Their ‘Fastest Ever Road-Going’ Car – The 599 GTO

By | April 8, 2010

Maranello awoke this morning to the joyful ringing of bells celebrating the reveal of Ferrari’s latest creation- the 599 GTO. We’ve been keeping our eye on this beast for a while and are glad to finally see the finished product.

The 599 GTO is a slightly filtered road going version of the 599XX track car and, according to Ferrari, is their ‘fastest ever road-going’ car.  The GTO offers up a 670 hp V-12 in a 1495kg (3289 lbs) car which represents a power-to-weight ratio of just 2.23 kg (4.9 lbs)/hp. The screaming V-12 ensures a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.35 seconds as well as a top speed of over 335 km/h(208 mph).

The 599 GTO features the latest from the Italian brand and is equipped with the second-generation carbon-ceramic brakes which are lighter and offer better performance, new aerodynamic innovations, such as the wheel doughnuts which increase aerodynamic efficiency as well as improve brake cooling, and the Supersport tyres developed by Michelin include a wider front tyre for greater roadholding. The driver-car interface is also new with the adoption of the Virtual Race Engineer (VRE) which provides the driver with instantaneous information on performance.

Fittingly enough the 599 GTO will be reserved for just 599 clients. An exclusive preview for a small number of Ferrari clients will be held on April 14th in Modena.  If you aren’t one of those lucky few, the public debut of the 599 GTO is set for the Beijing International Motor Show at the end of April. As always, we’ll keep you posted!
