Fiat 500 will become an American by end of 2010

By | February 12, 2010

Not much can get us revved up for Chrysler. A new Town & Country? Boring. The  all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee? Eh, not so much. A Fiat 500? YES PLEASE!

Today Dodge CEO and Chrysler Group design head, Ralph Giles, announced that Chrysler would be bringing Europe’s  hottest hatchback to the U.S. by the end of 2010!  We’ve known that the 500 would be state-bound for a while now, but to have an actual time line just gets us that much more excited.

What’s to be excited over?

The Fiat 500 is a great car in and of itself for starters. Throw in a turbocharger, lowered suspension, and a big ‘Sport’ button and you’ll get the peppy performance version called the 500 Abarth. Simply put, this is the most exciting B-segment car we can think of. No, we’ve never driven one to tell you how it drives. In fact, we’ve never even seen one in the flesh. But our hot hatchback sixth sense is going wild over the 500 and the fact that Top Gear raves about it should do it credit.

Um, it is cool but “Europe’s hottest hatch?” No…

They had one at CES as part of Microsoft’s section.

Yes, they totally are Europe’s hottest hatch as far as B-segment cars are concerned.

Any guess at a price Chad? I love this car, I think I will buy one, after a few years, because I don’t have enough money for a new one.

I sat in the one at CES for a good 5 minutes. It made me smile.

Blake- I am not sure yet. I’ve heard mid-teens to upwards of $23,000. Personally, though, I am thinking around the $16k mark. It CANNOT be priced too high, simply for Chrysler’s survival, and must be cheaper than a base Mini Cooper.

Martin- Dude, not much could replace the Fiesta in my eyes, but I totally agree with you!
