Finalists for the 2010 World Car of the Year announced
By Chad Waite | February 4, 2010
Motortend Car of the Year, NADA Car of the Year, Top Gear Car of the Year- all of these prestigious awards completely loose their luster when compared to the granddaddy of recognition: The World Car of the Year! In essence what the WCOTY award says to the winner is “Congrats, you’re the most desired, sexy, and accomplished car on Earth in 2010.” The winner will be revealed at the Geneva Motor show next month and a big golden trophy (see above) given to the winner at the New York Auto Show shortly thereafter.
So what cars made the finalist cut? Here is a list with along with our two cents on each car:
- Audi Q5 (love)
- BMW X1 (undecided)
- Chevrolet Cruze (excellent)
- Kia Soul (less)
- Mazda 3 (smiley grill)
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class (golf-tournament’s calling)
- Buick Regal (new=good, old=bad)
- Porsche Panamera (gross)
- Toyota Prius (gross/green)
- Volkswagen Polo (me wanty now)
On top of the regular WCOTY award, there is also the much more exciting World Performance Car of the Year award. And the nominees (including our thoughts) are:
- Aston Martin V12 Vantage (sexy)
- Audi R8 V10 (fast cocks)
- Audi TT Coupe/Roadster (not as fast cocks)
- BMW Z4 (omg)
- Ferrari California (woman supercar)
- Jaguar XFR (AWESOME!)
- Lotus Evora (wacky design)
- Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG (golf tournament’s calling…again)
- Nissan 370Z (hory cow!)
- Porsche 911 GT3 (yes. yes please)
- Porsche Boxter/Cayman (well, at least it isn’t a Panamera)
Which car do you think deserves to win and which one do you think will win?

I also think that a more appropriate name for the Kia Soul (since no Korean cars have souls) would be the Kia Carbunkle (since it looks like one)
