Hennessey Venom GT Starts Afterburners On Dyno

hennessey Venom GT

Back in November, we were super stoked to see the Hennessey Venom GT at SEMA. Turns out, the car didn’t make its much anticipated appearance, leaving us bummed and wanting more of the car that is essentially a Lotus Elise with a the power of a Hoover Dam turbine for an engine.

But we’ve decided to forgive the SEMA no-show when Hennessey released a video of the GT on their dyno. Now, we’re not into the business of spoiling endings or plots, but the video show this crazy car not only puts down 933 horsepower- it comes equipped with afterburners! At the peak of the dyno run, the Venom GT spits out a full-on jet fighter-esk exhaust flame that would seem more at home behind a full-throttled F-22 Raptor….or a Lamborghini Reventon.

And while the Hoover Dam turbine comparison was lame and over the top, powering this lightweight, beyond impractical car is a most delicious LS9 engine- you know, that big one that powers ZR1s around. What’s even more over the top is the fact that the Venom GT must put down this power using only the rear wheels. Tricky to drive? We’d guess so. Just imagine a 933 horsepower Lotus Elise with a few extra pounds 874 lb-ft of torque and you’ll get the idea…
