Hippie-Approved BMW i8 Gets 104 MPG…And 349hp

BMW i8 Profile

Under promise and over deliver. That’s a pretty good motto to live by in the business world and one that BMW has stuck with during the production of their new i8 supercar. Here’s why:

- Zee Germans decided to change the car’s name from Vision EfficientDynamics to Vision ED (let the ED jokes roll in….) and finally to the i8. With each iteration, the name got a little bit better and we certainly think that i8 sounds a lot better than the BMW Erectile Dysfunction.

- BMW ditched the three-cylinder diesel engine and replaced it with a proper 1.5L gasoline engine. This, paired with the i8′s hybrid-electric drive system, is good for an astounding 104 miler per gallon, a number that even “drivers must share the road” bike riding hippies everywhere can appreciate. The Erectile Dysfunction can even run up to 20 miles on just electric power….provided you don’t like anything like heat, air con, radio, lights, turn signals, or speeds above 20mph.

-When you do get sick of trying to save the world from global warming, the i8 has plenty of it. 0-60 will be done in a quick 4.6 seconds. For those of you traditional gas-fed BMW folks, you’ll be saddened to know that this is indeed faster than the current E92 M3 coupe. Top speed is limited to 155mph.

- Lastly is power. The numbers here aren’t mind bending, especially when compared to other supercars like the Nissan GT-R or Lamborghini Aventador, but the i8 does throw down a healthy 349 ponies, up from the speculated 328hp just a couple of months ago.
