Infiniti to Join the Ranks of Formula 1

2011 Red Bull F1

Luxury car maker Infiniti has decided to increase their global image by smacking their name and symbol on the side of the 2010 world champion Red Bull Racing Formula 1 car for the 2011 season. This is pretty much just a marketing move as the 2011 Red Bull car will still be powered by Renault engines, but we’ll just think that they are Infiniti’s.

Actually, Nissan and Renault have had a working relationship for many years now thanks to their manufacturing alliance formed back in 1999. Knowing this makes the move to add the Infiniti symbol on Sebastian Vettel’s and Mark Webber’s cars not such a strange one. Infiniti plans on expanding their image as well as their current product line with the help of Formula 1. This sounds like a great idea to us, especially if Infiniti is considering a rival to the Lexus LFA, which draws much of its technology from Formula 1 racing. We for one would love to see some more supercar meddling from the land of the rising sun. Now, we know Nissan has made their point with the GTR, but who wouldn’t love to see a sleeker, more exotic cousin to Godzilla?

When the season opener hits at the end of March in Australia (due to Bahrain being “postponed” for civil unrest) we’ll be watching the Infiniti Red Bull dice it up with Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes and the other world class brands. It is definitely going to be a great season!

…and just for fun here’s a video of Mark Webber flogging/advertising a GT2 RS:
