Karting In Utah: Miller Motorsports Park

By | April 26, 2010

Karting at Miller Motorsports ParkAfter covering Fast Kart last week, two things became immediately clear to the Daily Derbi crew testing out the top karting venues in Utah. First, karting is amazing fun. We’re talking bachelor party worthy entertainment here. Secondly, if the Fast Kart track was slick then the asphalt track at Miller Motorsports Park (MMP)– the only asphalt karting track in Utah– would be an entirely different experience.

We were right.

Lets start this article off by saying if the  key feature at Fast Kart was holding your kart steady while traveling sideways, then the highlight of MMP’s facility was holding on to your kart in general. Hot tires and a warm asphalt track make for tire grip that is absolutely unbelievable. Around every turn you feel as if you’re going to be thrown from the kart. It is terrifying and exhilarating all wrapped up in one out-of-this-world moment after another.

Karting at Miller Motorsports ParkOf course, you’re not going to fly out of your kart. Not even close. The karts at MMP are new and kept in amazing shape, including the bucket seats that’ll keep you snug and in place. And great karts mean great speed. At one point we were hitting 40mph, but at half an inch off the ground, it might as well have been 80 because that’s what it felt like.

The asphalt track also allowed for several elements not unlike those that you’d find on a real track for cars. First, white and blue berms around all of the corners allow you to hit the apex of any turn with perfect form. Secondly– and this is just flat out awesome– it takes some time for the tires of the karts to warm up and achieve full grip on the track. There is an obvious difference between cold and warm tires and your handling will greatly reflect that- just like full sized racing!

Pricing is incredibly good. $15 for 10 minutes on the weekends is an absolute bargain considering the facility, condition of the karts, and the new computer system that keeps track of your times and the fastest lap in your group (disclaimer- this causes A LOT of hatred towards the person with the best time).

Simply put, there is absolutely no way you could find more entertainment for the money. Seriously, take our word for it, cancel any plans you have this weekend and try your hand at the best karting in Utah.

oh man, oh man!! That’s all I can say! Sounds like I’d better pencil that in for more than just a few weekends this summer!
