Mark Fields Confirms Ford Focus ST In 2012 But RS Still Undecided

By | November 20, 2010

A concept Ford Focus race car by Ford Racing and several “tuner cars” were on the Ford stand at the LA Auto Show this past week alongside production Ford Focus.

The Focus will debut with four trim levels: S, SE, SEL and Titanium, and the choice of 11 different rim styles including 17” and 18” rims. Also available will be two different handling packages: SE Sport Package and the Titanium Handling Package. Blah blah blah…

BUT the biggest and most important news that we at The Daily Derbi care about is the Ford Focus ST. We already know the ST will finally make it to North America, but the excitement of having it on display at the LA Auto Show — on U.S. soil, is another step to having them at the local Ford dealerships available for sale.

This will be the first global high-performance model from Ford. 2012 can’t come soon enough!

The Ford Focus ST will offer an EcoBoost 2.0L I4 with 247 horsepower and 250 foot/pounds of torque. The car will only be FWD, but who can’t smile about power and boost in a semi-practical 5-door hatchback?

Enthusiasts are still waiting for a return of the Ford Focus RS and hopes that it will come to North America this time (preferably with a return of AWD).

Wow, 247HP out of a little I4 isn’t bad. If Ford can keep the weight of the ST down, that’ll be such a fun car to drive.
