Meet The FIA GT1 World Championship

Who wouldn’t love a race series containing cars like the Lamborghini Murcielago, Nissan GT-R, Corvette Z06, Aston Martin DB9, Ford GT, or Maserati MC12?  Surely such a dream series doesn’t exist!  Oh but it does my friends, it does!  Behold the glory of the FIA GT1 World Championship.

The GT1 series is one of many different GT categories that the FIA currently supports.  GT racing has been around for many years but with the new GT1 series, it has evolved into a true GT world championship.  These world-class cars will be dicing it up in races on the best tracks spanning 4 different continents.  The FIA (which stands for Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) has graciously created the GT1 category to focus solely on privateer teams, no big budget manufacturers allowed, keeping the racing fast and furious (pardon the cliché).

Unfortunately, as with pretty much anything else uber cool relating to European cars and racing, there is no U.S. television coverage in the works.  So, be prepared to fire up your interwebs to enjoy world-class GT racing this April!
