Mercedes-Benz redefines presence with the SLS AMG Gullwing

It’s been six years since Mercedes introduced the SLR in 2003 and now they are at it again. Their newest piece of work is called the SLS Gullwing and while it won’t be breathed on by the folks at McLaren, AMG will add their own touch to this 571 hp supercar.

Just like the SLR, the Gullwing will be powered by a massive V8 under a huge bonnet but will lack the supercharger that came standard with the McLaren. 0-62 is taken care of in a tidy 3.8 seconds and it will keep on accelerating to a limited speed of 197 mph.

The Gullwing’s party piece isn’t its performance, however. The car pays homage to the Mercedes SL300 from 1954 and just like the name suggests the SLS Gullwing features gullwing doors that swing upwards from a hing on the roof. And despite being completely useless in a crowded parking garage it does have massive amounts of presence. Drive through a crowd with this and it will turn heads, guaranteed. After all, is that not what buying a supercar is half about?
