New Elise Shows Lotus is All Grown Up
By Chad Waite | April 23, 2010
We don’t normally care too much about ‘facelifts’ or mid-model changes, but when it comes to the Lotus Elise, you have our undivided attention. You see, Lotus has always been the symbol of a purist. Simplicity, lightness, and connection with the road are synonyms with Lotus, and that commands respect – true sports cars the way that God intended them to be. Ever wanted to drop a 200hp engine into a Go kart? That’s what they do, and then price them as a bargain exotic.
Here are a few highlights from the cosmetic procedure:
Eyeliner – Can’t seem to get enough of the R8-esque LED eyeliner, can you? Neither can we. Daytime running lights in the form of eye makeup are crazy sexy.
Rear Diffuser – The new diffuser looks to come right off of the Ford GT. Ok, not quite that extreme, but it’s an awesome feature. Aside from looking hot, we bet it does something with the air that passes through it.
Rear deck – It looks like Lotus started taking design cues from the Lamborghini Gallardo for the rear deck. We’re pleased to see Lotus incorporate traditional exotic design elements into it’s always original style.
We can definitely see the role that the Evora has played in the restyling of the front fascia. The tail lights are actually looking a bit bland. The new body looks a bit wider and sports wider intakes. All in all, we approve heartily. Keep it coming, Lotus!

Ah…a genuine diffuser that actually produces a venturi effect sucking the back end down at speed, unlike the annoying fake diffusers on many cars these days like the Mazda 3.
