Panamera The Best Selling Porsche Model In U.S.

Porsche Panamera

***Come out to theĀ Daily Derbi Karting for Charity Day, May 27th!***

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” We’ve said it in the past and tend to stick to our guns, especially when talking about the Porsche Panamera. Here at The Daily Derbi we think that car is akin to seeing Rosie O’Donnell: too big, not very good looking from any angle, and curious as to how it got as far as it did.

But according to Porsche’s sales figures for April, we’re wrong and alone in our way of thinking. That’s because last month the 4-door Panamera outsold every other Porsche model, racking in an astounding sales figure of 678 unit sold. Even more surprising is the fact that all 911 models– you know, the most iconic Porsche ever– together sold less than half the volume of the Panamera.

The 4-door hunchback on wheels even outsold cheaper models like the Cayman and the Boxster- vehicles that are nearly half the price of a base $89,500 Panamera. Perhaps we’ll never understand America’s fascination with the newest addition to the Porsche family, but until we do, keep your eyes open for a lot more Panameras in the wild.

My opinion is that this is a first quarter fluke. All the people who wanted Porsches but need it as a daily driver kid-carrier bought one after waiting for it to come out. All of the 911s have been around for awhile.

The rarity also helped them quite a bit. The dealership by my house had one in for 6 hours before shipping it to someone who bought it in Colorado. If you have to buy a car from another state, that’s rare. If you can’t see one in a showroom, it’s entirely likely that you’re going to want one more.

I like the styling on the Panamera. For me Porsche can do no wrong, but I have owned two 914s…so maybe I just like the brand.

@Vegor – For reals? A Porsche purist that is not against the new Panamera formula? Incredible!
