Poll: Decide The Next Ferrari This Person Is Going To Buy

By | March 24, 2011

Ferrari Lineup

Last night, a Daily Derbi reader sent us this:

[NAME REMOVED] said she wanted to get a yellow Ferrari. When I asked her what kind, she said she didn’t know. “Haven’t gone shopping yet”

What Ferrari would you get if:

1) Had to be buyable in the US.
2) New. Currently in production. Or recently.
4) Comfortable.
5) Drivable without special training or Stig-like skills.
6) Looks good in yellow.

There’s the request, the criteria, and the challenge. Oh ya- this is totally real. The final verdict will really determine what new Ferrari this reader’s friend will be a proud owner of.

Which Ferrari should she buy?

Let’s start by taking a look at the complete offering of models currently available from Ferrari below then vote in the poll above:

599- Ferrari’s flagship grand tourer since 2007. Complete with a V12 up front, 612hp to the rear wheels and a $310,000 price tag. Definitely the most comfortable of the lot, however, not the easiest to drive of the choices. Yellow paint? Um, no so much.

599 GTO- All are sold. Too bad, but wouldn’t have been a good choice due to the crazy amount of skill needed to not die while driving. Also gets a no-go in the yellow paint department.

458 Italia- The beautiful replacement to the epically good Ferrari F430. It’s a proper mid-engined V8 Ferrari putting down 560hp and definitely looks good in yellow. It doesn’t get the title of most comfortable, but it’s renowned reputation for being easy to drive, both casually and aggressively, overshadows that in a second. Price? $240,000.

FF- Nope. All 800 models planned for 2011 have already been taken. And it’s about as attractive as a mouthful of British teeth.

California- The first ever Ferrari marketed towards women. Convertible, two seats in front, two “seats” in back to fit groceries and legless children, and a 450hp V8 attached to Ferrari’s first dual clutch transmission. It’s also the cheapest of the bunch, starting at $192,000. Yellow paint? Just because it’s available doesn’t mean you should do it.

Our verdict? The 458 Italia, of course. Is it really even a question?

I hate to say it, because I hate it, but my vote is for the California. It’s comfortable, and perfect for a mom. The 599 and 458 are both wonderful and beautiful cars, but they’re not mom cars. It doesn’t sound like she’s worried about too much besides style, and it’s stylish if you are a mom that doesn’t understand what Ferrari is all about.
