COTA GT Pole Sitter – #55 BMW Z4 GTE

Welcome to Round 8 of the 2013 season of the American Le Mans Series. This weekend’s stop, Circuit of the Americas. One of the newest tracks and the first in the USofA to be purpose-built for F1.

After the disastrous start of the Grand Prix of Baltimore – which caused nearly $2 million dollars in damage to mostly GT class cars – it’s nice to see the wide open spaces of COTA.

Today’s qualifying can best be described as WET. Can we say “rooster tails”! With a few exceptions, qualifying was rather boring. Everyone was doing their best to retain control of their car.

What to watch for:

In P1. Umm, do I really need to say anything? Muscle Milk continues it’s dominance. Dyson Racing is back to renting their car for the weekend. Of interest will be the newly revealed, the newly designed DeltaWing Coupe.

In GT. Most of the carnage of Baltimore was to the GT class. Some teams were able to rebuild their car, some teams had to take an older chassis and “hang” a newer aero package on it. BMW’s Joey Hand took the poll in the wet with the #55 BMW Z4 GTE. Even though qualifying was uneventful, I expect the race to be anything but.

Race starts at 4:30pm EDT on Saturday (9/21).
