Return Of The Datsun

By | March 21, 2012

Since Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn took the helm, the Japanese Giant has advanced in leaps and bounds.  There have been bumps in the road for sure but nothing as dark as the early 90′s when Nissan was almost no more.  Before it was Nissan there was Datsun and recently Mr. Ghosn has announced that the original nameplate will be making a comeback.

It’s been over 30 years since the last Datsun sat on a showroom floor.  Some were hideous creations that would have been more at home in a comic book, while others have become legends.  Datsun’s like the original Z and the stellar 510 will go down in history as some of the most iconic japanese vehicles on four wheels.

The new age Datsun’s won’t likely be the long hood short deck sports cars like the original 240Z.  According to Ghosn, the new Datsun’s will be sold in emerging markets for green and affordable cars.  Emerging markets is code for not anywhere you are likely to be.  Specifically, places like India and Russia.  So far there have been no announcements to bring Datsun to the states but I see an opportunity for some Datsun VS Scion competition.  A reiteration of the 510?  Yes please.
