Shelby SuperCars sexy Ultimate Aero set a record top speed in 2007 when it hit an amazing 256.23 mph. It was dethroned in June when the heavy-weight Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport hit an even more impressive 267.91 mph.

SSC plans to regain its title of world’s fastest production car when it releases its new super car in September.  After a private showing was held in July to VIPs — unfortunately we were not invited — another showing took place at Pebble Beach last weekend.

SSC plans to produce only 12 of its presumably sexier, new supers with a cost between $800,000 and $900,000. The company released a teaser image on its website, but no information on the September debut has been confirmed.

SSC released a statement last month confidently saying the new model would be “upping the ante on all fronts” over the Ultimate Aero. SSC’s new design chief Jason Castriota, of Ferrari 599 and Maserati GranTurismo fame, designed the new super car. The world’s fastest production car? We’ll take two!
