BMW M3 GTS

Rumors of a new M3 CSL. A new road legal M3 race car. Spy shots of a test M3 CSL at The Ring. Even a one-production unit M5 CSL. That’s a lot of automotive potential that’s given BMW some pretty hefty recent attention, leaving most with the question “what’s real and what’s not?”

To help clear out the confusion between what is and isn’t real BMW’s M division finally gave us the BMW M3 GTS and there are exactly four things that you need to know about it:

  1. It’s real. No more guessing if this model will see production or not.
  2. It’s fast. BMW claims it lapped the Nurburgring in 7:40.
  3. It’s expensive. The $170k kind of expensive.
  4. Even though it’s a racecar, it’s still street legal.

What makes this mind blowing lap time producing, super expensive street legal racing machine so special? The trick is comparing it to a stock and now seemingly boring M3. The engine size has been increased from 4Lto 4.4L translating to 444 Hp. Curb weight has been decreased by 419 pounds dropping the GTS to a lean and fit 3285 pounds. And all the standard “performance aerodynamic parts” have been fitted on this car too, just in case you missed the big front splitter and the bigger rear spoiler.

But those are just numbers and figures. Boring, meaningless stuff that lacks substance on paper. To help you grasp what an awesome car this M3 GTS really is, here is a BMW promotional video!
