The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly…

Technical Difficulties

If you haven’t noticed, we’ve been down the last couple of days. Admittedly, it happens far more than it should. But this time was different. We’re not talking about a little glitch- we’re talking about a near full loss of two and a half years or archived car news with an unhealthy dose of opinion. So, how does this happen?

The Bad: Let’s mix up the order of this post’s title and start with the bad. It starts with me and my overconfidence in my ability to tinker with code both on the frontend and backend of the DailyDerbi. Unfortunately, I fall into a category of folks that reads a couple coding tutorials and thinks they are the overlord of computer programming.

The Ugly: Yesterday I tried to do a security update on some backend elements of The Daily Derbi. We don’t want anymore Syrian hacktivists attacking the site again…. Long story short, I broke something that I didn’t know how to fix and it took the entire site offline. Not just one little element, but everything we’ve ever done.

The Good: After a lot (and I mean a lot) of trouble shooting, diagnosing, and caffeine, we’re back online and running stronger than ever! That means it’s a  good time to introduce our two newest authors, Chance Hales and Matthew Davis, both gearheads who know that it’s far better to stick to cars over code. A lesson I’m still learning.
