The Hand of God is No Respecter of Automobiles

australia flooding

Where do we feel the safest? You probably aren’t thinking “my car” if you’re ever been in an accident, but we generally do feel fairly safe in our 2+ ton, rolling, metal boxes. Sometimes it helps to have a reminder just how fragile we are compared to acts of God.

Check out this video:

This took place 3 days ago in Australia where all the crazy flooding has been occurring. It starts off as just an amazing flow in the stream, and as the video progresses, the water level rises and you can tell it’s about to hit the fan.

Notice how an experienced offroader at about the 1 minute mark takes the time to lock his hubs, hop in the car, shift into 4×4, and save his Pathfinder. You, sir, are our hero…one ballsy, ballsy hero.

At the 2 minute mark, watch the flood rip a Subaru STi downstream, proving that God is no respecter of automobiles. (Had it been our decision, we would likely have spared the STi and Pathfinder by the miraculous means of a legion of flying unicorns, or possibly something more divine.)

All we can say is “WOW!” We’re very glad that no captains appeared to go down with their respective ships. The awesome power of floods is definitely not something to take lightly.

We humbly regret that the cars that washed downstream could not have been:

  1. A Prius
  2. Two Panameras
  3. A minivan
  4. An 80′s Corvette
  5. An 80′s Mustang
  6. A Ferrari Mondial

…in that order.

I used to live in Australia and it can rain there really hard. A Panamera might be too heavy to get washed away.

Whoever the Valet was at 5:22 should get a bonus ;)

LOL, @Rossl, our hope is that the rain would be strong enough to wash just one Panamera away. Then it could come and budge the one downstream, and they could both die.

I couldn’t help giggling at the end while watching the pile-up… that is amazing!
