This Is The New BMW 3-Series
By Chad Waite | October 14, 2011
Are you a BMW fan but wish that your 3-Series would look more like the new 5-Series? Well even if you’re not, that’s precisely what BMW has gone and done with their sixth generation 3-Series sports sedan, arguably the best sport sedan ever put into production.
This time around, a lot is different. First and foremost is the looks, getting much more aggressive with a a wider nose and angry looking headlights up front. Yeah, the rest of the car flows pretty much like the current generation, but the revised front fascia is more than enough to catch an eye or two.
Under the hood lies the biggest change to the new 3-Series where zee Germans have ditched the traditional inline six for the turbocharged four cylinder engine found in the Z4. It looks like this will be standard across the entire lineup, so say goodbye to natural aspiration from here on out! But that’s definitely a good thing because the new 3s supposedly gain more power and efficiency from the upgrade. What type of power? Well a base 328i will put down a healthy 240 horses with 260 lb-ft of torque.
To diversify the line up a bit, BMW has also added several trim routes a new 3-Series buyer can take when buying the car. Included are the Sport Line, Luxury Line, Modern Line, and the M Sport Package, which will deck the car out with an M suspension, M short shifter, and revised aerodynamics. Anyone wanna take a guess at which one we’d opt for?
Specs and details vary depending on your trim level and the new 3-Series will also boast an entire arsenal of new electronic options and expensive things to break. And because we’re too lazy to hash out each individual detail in this article, this handy BMW promotional video should help you navigate your way through all three trim levels along with all of the extra details you need to know for the new generation of 3-Series.
