Talk about your major PR nightmares. Toyota, widely regarded as the most reliable car manufacturer in the world, announced today that they will expand their recall of vehicles with potentially faulty accelerator pedals to Europe.
As is the case with the United States, the European recall will focus on the same eight models affected and will not include any Scion or Lexus vehicles. The models in question include the latest versions of the RAV4, Corolla, Camry, Matrix, Avalon, Highlander, Tundra, and Sequoia.
It should be interesting to see how Toyota is able to handle such a large recall. Unlike American companies, where recalls are dime-a-dozen and practically expected, this is Toyota’s first. Expanding it to the European front adds a whole other dimension of correct PR moves and technical ability to successfully execute such a move.
Will this forever tarnish Toyota’s reputation of reliability? Guess we’ll find out…
