V6 Lotus Exige Capture On Camera!
By Chad Waite | June 6, 2010
In the torrent of opinionated speculation that was last week’s episode of the Daily Derbi podcast, we briefly mentioned that Lotus was toying with the idea of putting a V6 engine in their Exige. Now the speculation is gone and the pictures are in as AutoCar magazine captured the first photos of a V6 Exige out for some testing in the wild.
Of course, a bigger engine is going to mean more weight, and that’s something practically counter-intuitive to Lotus. But with the weight will certainly come a significant increase in power and torque. Even lightweight purists won’t argue against a better power-to-weight ratio in these track cars.
How much additional power? That remains to be seen, however, it’s clear from the pictures that Lotus has made a few refinements to the Exige chassis to deal with the increase. Note the increased track in the wheelarches or the new, further back placement of the rear wheels. Extended wheelbase? Yes, please!
Odds are not in your favor for seeing an upgrade like this to the Elise line, but you’d be safe betting that we’ll bring you any updates on this freaking exciting update to an already amazing car.

Wow, what an unattractive rear! It’s so sad that they had to make it look like that while widening the track.

I am sure it’s still in “production mode” so I doubt that’s what a final version would look like. But ya, it’s hideous.
