Meet the new Tesla Model X, the first all-electric SUV/minivan as Tesla is putting it. It shares 60% of its parts with the Model S. It also features what Tesla calls “Falcon Doors,” which are similar to gullwing doors found on the Mercedes-Benz SLS and the Delorean but they also hinge just above the windows to keep them more compact while they are opening. Its unique looks are similar to the BMW X6 and Acura ZDX with its fastback roof line.
Tesla says the Model X will do 0-60mph in 4.4 sec and although range is not yet announced, based on the Model S we should be able to expect it to get 200-300mi on a single charge depending on trim levels. Tesla plans to begin production in 2014 likely for the 2015 model year and is expected to start at $50,000 for the base model and one fully loaded will land you as much as $80,000.
