Want a Lotus Evora? It’ll set you back $73k

$73,500 is enough money to have some serious fun with. With Southwest’s $59 deal you could fly around the U.S. 1,225 times. Or you could stay at a suite in Vegas’ Bellagio hotel for 36.75 nights. You may even be feeling patriotic and opt to pay off 1/163,000,000 of the national debt. Odds are, however, you won’t do any of those with your hard earned $73k. No, no, instead you’d take a look at the new Lotus gently tapping your shoulder for attention.
Following a successful European launch, Lotus is bringing the newest member of their terrific handling, wacky-styling car family stateside. It’s called the Evora and the entry price you ask? You guessed it- $73,500 for the base model, which is sure to be followed by a list of optional extras.
In your author’s humble opinion though, the Evora is a step back from what Lotus is good at doing. Yes, it handles amazing as Top Gear has made clear, but besides that and a familiar badge the Evora steps far away from the crazy styling and minimalistic design of the Elise and Exige. Leather, premium sound systems, electric seats, satellite navigation- all unfamiliar terms for Lotus and Lotus drivers alike until now.
And look at the price! $73k would buy two Elises back in the day. As far as we can work out the price is for the new class factor. The Evora has politely excused itself from the head-turning design of Lotuses past and conformed to a world where track cars can be practical.
But lets face it- that’s not what a Lotus is about.
