Weekend Pick: Mazda MX-5 vs Honda S2000

By | January 31, 2010

It’s Sunday and another round of Weekend Pick is upon us. Two hot little performance coupes, the Mazda MX-5 Miata and the Honda S2000, are the cars in question this week but only one can win.

Lets start with the MX-5. Since its humble beginnings in 1989 with a reputation as being a male hairdresser’s ride of choice, the Miata  has risen to the rank of best mid-entry roadster in the world according to Clarkson and the boys at Top Gear. It’s cheap (relatively speaking), it’s good looking, and has performance to match.

On the other hand, the Honda S2000 has been The Daily Derbi’s overall car of choice since we test drove one back in October. Ya, it’s a bit more expensive, and yes, Honda has halted production so you won’t find them new anymore. Even the looks are a bit…well blah. But the 64 extra horsepower over the Miata and the astonishingly responsive handling help those problems disappear and bring on what Clarkson calls “a crisis.”

I’d have the MX5 but only if these guys could give it some new clothes and take the “hairdresser” out of it http://www.simpsondesign.net/italia.htm
