Istook Motorsports and The Arc have teamed up to race for the same cause. Not only are they busy on the track fighting for position in the GTS class of Pirelli World Challenge, but also are fighting to help those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Don and Laurie Istook, the owners of Istook Motorsports, race in this Audi TT RS, which happens to have been the first one to arrive in the US, which has been tuned to around 400hp by REVO Technik. That isn’t what makes this team so interesting though.
Laurie Istook’s brothers, Mark and Tyson, were diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome, a genetic condition effecting the X chromosome in males which affects the way the body makes protein needed for the brain to grow properly. This condition hasn’t stopped them from being an intricate part of the race team. Mark and Tyson are examples of what this team is all about. The Istooks have teamed up with The Arc to bring 20 individuals with I/DD to be honorary team members at all nine of the Pirelli World Challenge races in 2013.
The team finished 15th overall in 2012 with a highest place finish of 11th in class at both Mazda Laguna Seca and Sonoma Raceway (formerly Infineon Raceway and Sears Point). The 2013 season opens March 22 at The Streets of St Petersburg.
