Ford GT40

Ed. note: This is part 3 of a 3 part series on Ford GT40s. Here is Part 1 and Part 2.

Continuing with historic Ford GT cars, Mr. Jim Cullen of California gave me a rundown on his original Gulf color version.

Jim states, “The car is a Superperformance GT-40R based on the original GT-40 MK I, It was built by them in South Africa in 2009. I purchased it thru Dynamic Auto West, a local dealer in Redwood City, CA. and had it shipped directly from the factory as a roller to Olthoff Racing in North Carolina. I then purchased a used but freshened 358 cu. in. NASCAR Sprint Cup motor from Roush Yates Racing also in North Carolina. Olthoff Racing (another vote of confidence for Dennis and his team) installed the drivetrain and race prepped the car. They maintain it, keep it prepped, transport it and provide track support to this day. They do a supreme job and I recommend them to anyone. I raced the car for a year in HSR and SVRA at various tracks ( Sebring, Road Atlanta Watkins Glen, etc.), where the engine power proved unmanageable for my skill level. We then switched to a period correct 5 liter inline valve engine and have raced the car successfully since then at the same tracks.”

Ford GT owners are consistent. They love their cars. Their cars light up the track with their speed and grace. They’re cool. Olthoff Racing earns universally high reviews for their skill and excellence.

See you at the track.

One of the original Gulf GT40s was purchased by the Larry H Miller group at Pebble Beach last year for a whopping $11 million! The car now sits on display in the museum at Miller Motorsports Park and once belonged to Steve McQueen!

There’s very few cars that have such an amazing profile view like the GT40 (and the new GT). This is one of my favorite Weekend Wallpapers ever.
